In this role you provide inpatient PM&R consultation care at a premier Level I trauma center, integrating clinical excellence with education. You will collaborate with surgeons, hospital teams, and rehabilitation staff to optimize functional recovery and discharge planning. The position supports scholarly activity and curriculum development within an academic department. You will teach residents and students while contributing to quality improvement and academic projects. Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient PM&R consultations for complex neurotrauma and multisystem conditions
- Assess impairments across neurological, musculoskeletal, and functional domains
- Develop rehabilitation plans emphasizing functional recovery and discharge planning
- Monitor progress, document findings, and adjust treatment plans
- Collaborate with hospitalists, trauma teams, neurosurgery, orthopedics, therapists, case management, and nursing
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, prognosis, and functional expectations
- Participate in weekend call rotation for inpatient rehab/consult service duties
- Teach and supervise PM&R residents, medical students, and other learners
- Contribute to curriculum development and academic/quality improvement projects
- Engage in departmental policy development and administrative responsibilities
Key requirements
- MD or DO degree
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited PM&R residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
- Eligibility for Virginia medical licensure and DEA certification
- Strong interest in academic medicine and combining clinical practice with education and scholarly activity
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
