You lead a talented visuals team, mentor editors and reporters, and drive innovation and impact in coverage. You’ll align visual strategy with newsroom priorities, balancing real-time responsiveness with long-form storytelling. Responsibilities

Lead visual strategy across digital, print and social platforms in a fast-paced newsroom
Manage and mentor a team of visual journalists delivering award-winning photos and videos
Plan and execute visuals for major coverage priorities, balancing real-time needs with long-term storytelling
Collaborate with editors and reporters to develop visually-forward projects that drive audience growth and subscriptions
Oversee off-platform visual presence using data and audience insights to guide innovation
Direct visual planning across photo, video, graphics and interactive formats
Champion ethical, inclusive, and audience-centered storytelling that reflects Arizona
Foster staff development and a culture of creativity, collaboration and journalistic integrity
Participate in regional and national visual strategy discussions within the USA TODAY Network

Key requirements

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, visual communication or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Proven success leading visual journalism teams in a digital-first newsroom
Expertise in multimedia storytelling (photography, video, cross-platform production)
Strong understanding of digital and social video platforms, especially YouTube, with content strategy experience
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining creative excellence
Exceptional editorial judgment and commitment to accurate, ethical journalism
Experience fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and staff development
