Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of general liability and personal injury defense matters from intake to resolution
Draft and file pleadings, motions, responses, and other court documents in state and federal courts
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex liability and procedural issues
Prepare witnesses, take and defend depositions, and coordinate expert witnesses
Communicate with clients, insurers, and opposing counsel with updates and strategic recommendations
Develop case strategies with partners and senior attorneys, including risk assessment and settlement evaluation
Represent clients at mediations, hearings, and jury trials
Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and legal assistants; delegate tasks and review work
Maintain accurate case files and billing records in line with firm policies
Participate in business development activities, including client pitches and networking

Key requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active bar admission in California
2+ years of civil litigation defense experience focused on general liability and personal injury
Trial experience or significant motion practice and courtroom exposure preferred
Strong written and oral advocacy skills
Ability to manage a heavy caseload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with discovery procedures, evidence rules, and civil procedure in state and federal courts
Experience working with insurers and understanding of insurance coverage and indemnity issues
Excellent client relationship and communication skills
Ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate within a team-oriented culture
Proficiency with case management software, e-billing systems, and legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis)
