In this role, you will lead and coordinate the Development Review and Inspection Services division to advance flood mitigation, erosion control, and water quality for the City of Austin. You will set strategic goals, develop policies, and ensure compliance with regulations while guiding budget planning and major expenditures. You’ll act as a key liaison with City departments, consultants, and government bodies, and you’ll present findings to leadership and public officials. This position offers the chance to shape administrative practices and drive cross-cutting programs in a municipal setting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement short- and long-range strategies, plans, programs, and personnel that provide administrative, managerial support, fiscal management, program planning, and evaluation
- Determine goals, objectives, and resource requirements for activities within the division
- Develop, revise, and implement standard operating practice, policy, and procedure governing the division
- Ensure division is in compliance with all governmental regulations, ordinances, directives, and City practice, policy, and procedure
- Assist in the development, management, and monitoring of the departmental budget, ensuring department operates within appropriated budget
- Recommend and, as applicable, approve major purchases and expenditures
- Act as liaison to City departments, consultants, contractors, and governmental agencies
- Respond to and resolve sensitive inquiries, complaints, and issues from both internal and external sources
- Prepare and present reports by compiling, reviewing, and analyzing data; provides written and/or oral reports
- Investigate and resolve consumer and citizen inquiries and/or complaints
- Present to City Council; boards; County, State, and Federal officials; vendors; contractors; and the general public
