You will apply CFD, heat transfer, and combustion to evaluate battery fires and gas explosions, primarily using FLACS and FDS. You’ll support large-scale fire testing, performance-based design, and code compliance for energy and built-environment projects. This role offers collaboration with CFD, testing, certification, and research teams to advance fire and explosion safety engineering. You can impact risk reduction through credible worst-case scenarios and validated models.

Compensation / Benefits

salary range $100,000 to $130,000 USD

Responsibilities

Develop and execute CFD-based fire and explosion simulations using FLACS and FDS
Model ESS/BESS fire and explosion scenarios including off-gas release, ignition and overpressure
Analyze outputs: temperature fields, heat flux, overpressure, gas concentration
Support performance-based fire and explosion safety design and code compliance
Pre-/post-process CFD simulations and assist in V&V with large-scale test data
Prepare technical reports for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain modeling workflows
Continuously develop expertise through literature and internal practices

Key requirements

3–5 years of experience in CFD, thermal-fluid simulation, fire modeling, or related applied simulation work
Hands-on experience with FDS and FLACS or similar explosion/gas dispersion tools
CAD software experience (Inventor, SolidWorks)
Ability to apply first principles to build simulation models
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently within a structured engineering framework
