As Engineering Director, AI Platform Engineering, you will lead the team building MassMutual’s AI infrastructure and developer experience. You own people leadership, hiring, and delivery, partnering with technical and product leaders to translate roadmaps into accountable sprints. You’ll influence architecture for AI platform components and uphold engineering excellence across code quality, reliability, and operations. You’ll foster a high-trust culture, support team growth, and communicate trade-offs to senior stakeholders. This role sits at the nexus of cloud infrastructure, AI/ML systems, and enterprise developer experience, shaping how the company builds and deploys AI at scale.

Responsibilities

Lead people management: hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development for the AI platform team
Drive execution on the AI platform roadmap, turning priorities into sprints and milestones
Engage in architecture discussions and design reviews for agent runtime infrastructure, registries, memory/context management, and observability pipelines
Uphold engineering standards across code quality, on-call practices, and operational maturity
Communicate progress, risks, and resource needs to senior stakeholders and translate technical trade-offs for varied audiences
Advocate for team wellbeing and growth, remove blockers, and foster high-trust culture and strong technical craft

Key requirements

3+ years as a people manager of software/platform/infrastructure engineers
5+ years of overall software engineering experience
Cloud-native architecture knowledge (Kubernetes, managed cloud services, multi-tenancy) across AWS, GCP, or Azure
Experience leading multi-month platform initiatives from whiteboard to production
Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure (model serving, inference pipelines, LLM integration patterns)
Experience setting and upholding engineering standards across teams
Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical depth for business audiences
Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering or similar discipline
Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
