Ascent Private Capital Management's California Region (Ascent) has an excellent opportunity for a Managing Director, Wealth Strategy (MD-WS). The MD-WS is a senior-level advisor who will be the main point of contact and the subject matter expert in the wealth planning relationship with the client.

The MD-WS will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and must be a cultural fit in a collaborative, collegial team environment that is focused on impeccable client service delivery.

Ascent takes a long-term view towards relationships and seeks a like-minded individual to fill this critical role. These client relationship skills will be crucial in developing insight and understanding of the needs, planning, and dynamics of the client family. He or she will work with specialists in a dynamic UHNW team/platform that includes: open architecture investment management; sophisticated banking; estate, tax, trust, and fiduciary services; accounting and reporting; and other complex services depending on the needs of the client family.

The Role

The MD-WS will focus on helping families and individuals flourish and secure a thriving legacy that is supported by their shared capital, visions, values, and talents. Candidates must have deep, multi-generational consultative experience advising UHNW families, including: wealth planning/coordination; advanced income and transfer tax planning; business continuation and succession planning; family risk management; family governance; stewardship and family education; philanthropic planning and family foundation management; and trust administration and fiduciary advice.

The MD-WS will participate with and be supported by a national advisory team containing tax, legal, and financial professionals as well as professionals in the field of wealth and family dynamics. The national team will provide analysis, research, technical support, and subject matter expertise in both traditional quantitative planning and non-traditional qualitative planning.

The successful candidate will need to have proven leadership abilities, executive presence and communication skills to successfully work with a team that exceeds client service expectations. He or she will be relationship-oriented and have evidenced success in forming deep relationships with colleagues and clients as well as developing new client business. This person may be located in one of the Ascent offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newport Beach or La Jolla.

  • Minimum 10 years wealth planning/strategy with HNW/UHNW family clients
  • Minimum 10 years estate/multi-generational planning
  • JD, LLM, CPA (at least JD or CPA)
  • Wealth transfer and trust/fiduciary knowledge/experience within context of HNW/UHNW
  • Estate, gift, income, and partnership taxation expertise
  • Family business experience in planning or consulting preferred
  • Demonstrated through leadership through published articles or speaking engagements with industry associations
  • Proven business development and/or client relationship management focus
